Sustainable Development

Environnement, Social Cohesion, and Health

The Environment, a Priority for the Games

Active environmental awareness during the preparation and execution of the Games is a priority for the Host Society. This includes actions such as:

  • Selecting venues to minimize travel distances
  • Measuring and offsetting GHG emissions
  • Reducing plastic and waste, using sorting stations
  • Implementing circular economy practices and donating surplus food
  • Excavation work to reduce the amount of snow required for sliding sports
  • Adopting a sustainable procurement policy

Good to Know

  • Employees and volunteers will receive training to increase environmental awareness.
  • As the primary legacy of the Games, the multifunctional curling centre is exemplary in environmental sustainability.
  • Efforts will be made to minimize the use of new materials, including signage, and to recycle as much as possible.

Social Cohesion Through Inclusion

We are creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. We are committed to reflecting the demographics of Quebec City within our team and among our volunteers, ensuring minority representation.

We aim to meet high standards of universal accessibility.

Health Through Sport

We will help establish programs introducing and encouraging participation in sports, in collaboration with the City of Quebec and other partners.

We promote a healthy and active lifestyle.

Biosphere Certification

The 2027 Canada Games Host Society is on track to obtain the internationally recognized Biosphere eco-responsibility certification. This initiative will provide additional expertise to align with the Canada Games’ sustainability goals and support Quebec City’s transition to sustainable tourism.

Major partners such as the Quebec City Convention Centre, ExpoCité, and several hotels have already obtained the Biosphere certification.
